2027 Kia Telluride and Telluride Hybrid: Trims, MPG and Pricing for New York City Families
Published August 11, 2026 · Last updated September 15, 2026
The Telluride was already the three-row SUV families kept recommending to each other. For 2027 Kia rebuilt it, dropped the V6 for a turbocharged four, and added the one thing New Yorkers had been asking about for years: a hybrid.
What's changing on the 2027 Kia Telluride?
Everything. This is a complete second-generation redesign, and the headline is the powertrain: the 3.8-liter V6 is gone, replaced by a 2.5-liter turbocharged four with 274 horsepower and 311 lb-ft through an eight-speed automatic — 49 lb-ft more torque than before, which is what you feel merging off a short on-ramp.
Alongside it sits the first Telluride Hybrid ever built: the same turbo four with a 1.65-kWh battery and motors for 329 horsepower and 339 lb-ft through a six-speed automatic — both the quicker Telluride and by far the cheaper one to feed. The body grew to 199.2 inches on a 116.9-inch wheelbase, and the cabin borrows the EV9 playbook. One trim note matters before you shop: the off-road X-Pro is gasoline only, so a hybrid buyer who wants the rugged look chooses X-Line.
There is no 2026 Telluride. Kia skipped the model year entirely to launch this generation, so the outgoing first-generation car was the 2025. Looking at a leftover 2025 or a certified pre-owned example? Ask us — the price gap is real.
How it compares with the first generation
The first-generation Telluride ran from 2020 through 2025 and got a facelift for 2023. This is not that: the V6 gave way to the turbo four, and the interior went from good-for-the-price to genuinely upmarket. The change families will actually use is the second row — it slides farther forward and tilts with a child seat still installed. Legroom there measures 43.0 inches, which Kia calls class leading, and cargo runs 22.3 cubic feet behind the third row, 48.7 behind the second and up to 89.3 with everything folded.
When is the 2027 Kia Telluride release date?
Both versions are on sale now. Gas and hybrid 2027 Tellurides are arriving at Plaza Kia, and you can drive a gas SX and a Hybrid EX back to back on the same streets in one visit.
How allocation moves on a redesign. Inventory turns quickly in a launch year and the hybrid trims move fastest. X-Pro and SX-Prestige combinations are hardest to find here — tell us the trim, drivetrain and color and we will flag one when it lands, no deposit, no obligation.

Will the 2027 Kia Telluride cost more?
Yes — a redesign year is not a carryover year. The gas LX front-drive opens at $39,190 and the X-Pro SX-Prestige at $56,790, before the $1,545 destination charge. The Hybrid runs $46,490 to $57,590.
What moves your payment most is the hybrid decision, and it cuts both ways. A Hybrid EX costs about $2,700 more than a gas EX but returns 35 combined mpg against 22 — the difference between two fill-ups a month and four. For a family driving most days inside the city, that closes the premium well inside a lease term. For an SUV that mostly sits, it does not.
All-wheel drive is a $2,000 option on the gas S and EX and on the Hybrid EX, standard from X-Line upward. Your trade is the other lever: at this price, existing equity usually decides whether the hybrid is within reach, so run a trade-in value early.
2027 Kia Telluride gas trims compared
Every gas Telluride uses the same turbo four and eight-speed automatic. Prices exclude the $1,545 destination charge.
| Trim | Drive | MSRP | EPA mpg (city/hwy/comb.) | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LX | FWD | $39,190 | 20 / 26 / 22 | 12.3-inch touchscreen with navigation, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, tri-zone climate, dual wireless charging, 19 driver aids |
| S | FWD or AWD | $42,090 FWD $44,090 AWD | 20 / 26 / 22 FWD 18 / 24 / 20 AWD | Larger wheels, sunroof, power liftgate, heated power driver's seat, captain's chairs |
| EX | FWD or AWD | $43,790 FWD $45,790 AWD | 20 / 26 / 22 FWD 18 / 24 / 20 AWD | Synthetic leather, ventilated front seats, tilt-and-slide second row |
| X-Line EX | AWD standard | $47,290 | 18 / 24 / 20 | EX equipment plus rugged exterior treatment |
| SX | FWD | $48,790 | 20 / 26 / 22 | The tech jump: dual 12.3-inch displays, Meridian audio, Surround View, Highway Driving Assist 2 |
| X-Line SX | AWD standard | $51,790 | 18 / 24 / 20 | SX tech with X-Line styling |
| X-Pro SX | AWD standard | $53,690 | 18 / 24 / 20 | All-terrain tires, E-LSD, terrain modes, Ground View Monitor, 9.1 in. clearance |
| SX-Prestige | AWD standard | $53,890 | 18 / 24 / 20 | 12-inch head-up display, relaxation front seats, heated third row |
| X-Line SX-Prestige | AWD standard | $54,890 | 18 / 24 / 20 | SX-Prestige cabin, X-Line exterior |
| X-Pro SX-Prestige | AWD standard | $56,790 | 18 / 24 / 20 | Flagship gas trim: loaded cabin plus X-Pro hardware |
Two details are easy to miss. The plain SX is front-drive only, so an SX buyer who wants AWD moves to the X-Line SX. And the X-Pro's all-terrain tires sit at the thirsty end of the range.
2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid trims compared
329 horsepower combined, six-speed automatic, and an estimated 637 miles of range in EX front-drive form.

| Hybrid SX | FWD | $51,490 | 32 / 34 / 33 | Meridian audio, Surround View and Blind-Spot View Monitors, HDA 2 |
| Hybrid X-Line SX | AWD standard | $54,490 | 30 / 32 / 31 | SX tech, X-Line exterior |
| Hybrid SX-Prestige | AWD standard | $56,590 | 30 / 32 / 31 | Head-up display, digital key, heated seats in all three rows |
| Hybrid X-Line SX-Prestige | AWD standard | $57,590 | 30 / 32 / 31 | Top of the range, loaded cabin plus X-Line styling |
Which version fits which New Yorker
- Hybrid EX FWD — the sharpest choice for a family that rarely leaves the city.
- Hybrid EX AWD — the winter answer. You give up four combined mpg and still land at 31, which no gas three-row here approaches.
- Gas LX or S — if the SUV mostly sits during the week and the hybrid premium takes longer to pay back.
- SX and X-Line SX — where the parking hardware lives.
- SX-Prestige — for a long commute, where the head-up display and relaxation seats change how a two-hour crawl feels.
- X-Pro — for the household with a place upstate or a boat, not for Flatbush.
The cabin now feels like the price of the car
Kia took the EV9 playbook into the Telluride and the result reads far more expensive than it is. Every trim gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen with navigation and wireless CarPlay and Android Auto; upper trims run dual 12.3-inch displays plus a head-up display.
The details are where a family actually lives. Dual wireless charging pads sit up front, USB-C ports run through all three rows including the seatbacks, and a 120V outlet sits in the cargo area. Higher trims add relaxation front seats with powered leg rests, heated and ventilated second-row seats and a heated third row — rare at this price and worth a lot on a January school run.
Awards and recent Kia news
The redesign is landing well with the people who test these things for a living. U.S. News & World Report named the 2027 Telluride Hybrid its Best Midsize Hybrid SUV in the 2026 Best Hybrid and Electric Car awards, after editors evaluated 138 vehicles. The Northwest Automotive Press Association named the X-Pro the best three-row family SUV at Mudfest, and the New England Motor Press Association called it the 2026 Best Winter Family Utility Vehicle of New England — an award decided in exactly the salt and slush we get here.
On safety, the second generation is built around a reinforced structure with 10 airbags including a new front-center airbag, and targets an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating. Nineteen driver aids are standard with up to 29 available, including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with cyclist detection and a radar Rear Occupant Alert for rows two and three. Independent 2027 crash results are still in the test cycle; the previous Telluride held an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ and a five-star NHTSA rating.
Behind it sits the warranty that built the brand: 10 years or 100,000 miles of powertrain coverage, 5 years or 60,000 miles basic, both limited.
Why this one works for New York drivers
- Hybrid economics are a city story. Hybrids do their best work in stop-and-go, which describes almost every mile between Marine Park and Midtown. Going from 22 to 35 combined mpg is real money every month.
- You see out of it. The upright body makes the corners easy to place, and Surround View plus the Blind-Spot View Monitor turn parallel parking and lane changes past cyclists into something close to routine.
- Winter traction without a second car. AWD is available across both lineups, and the available self-leveling rear suspension keeps the ride settled with the third row full.
- Built for bad pavement and salt. Ground clearance and a comfort-tuned suspension handle the potholes, plow ridges and steel plates of a New York winter. The heated third row is not a luxury in February.
- Towing when you need it. Up to 5,000 pounds properly equipped on the gas model, 4,500 on the hybrid.
The honest caveat is size — 199.2 inches is a lot of car for a tight garage or a block where spots are scarce. Price out a Sportage Hybrid or a Seltos first, and if you need sliding doors for curbside drop-off the Carnival is the smarter tool. We would rather you buy the right one.
