2027 Kia Carnival for NYC Families: Trims, MPG, Pricing and What Changed
Published August 10, 2026 · Last updated September 14, 2026
Kia priced the 2027 Carnival on July 6, 2026, and for New York families the headline is a new second-row seating choice on two popular trims. Here is the full lineup, the fuel economy numbers that matter on Flatbush Avenue, and how it reads from our showroom on Nostrand Avenue.
What's changing on the 2027 Kia Carnival?
The Carnival carries into 2027 with its SUV-inspired face intact and four targeted updates. Second-row captain's chairs are now available on EX and SX, so buyers no longer have to climb to SX Prestige to get a walk-through aisle between rows two and three. Iceberg Green joins the paint chart on EX, SX and SX Prestige, and Flare Red is retired. The Dark Edition appearance package expands down to EX. Rear-seat entertainment narrows to one configuration: Hybrid SX Prestige with VIP Lounge Seats.
Powertrains, dimensions and the safety suite carry over untouched. Industry watchers expect the next substantive change with a mid-cycle refresh rather than in 2027.
Why the captain's chairs update matters here: in a tight parking spot you often cannot open both sliding doors. A center aisle lets a child in the third row exit through whichever side faces the sidewalk.
How it compares with the last restyle
The Carnival's most recent restyle landed for 2025 and did the heavy lifting this generation needed: the vertical headlight signature and squared grille that gave the van its SUV-adjacent face, the twin 12.3-inch curved display panel, and — most importantly for anyone shopping here — the arrival of the 1.6-liter turbo hybrid as a full lineup option rather than an afterthought.
Measured against that, 2027 is a refinement year. If you are stepping out of a pre-2025 Carnival, nearly everything you notice comes from the restyle rather than from this model year. If you are cross-shopping a 2026 against a 2027 on the lot right now, the difference is the four items above and the sticker.
When is the 2027 Kia Carnival release date?
Already here. Kia published 2027 Carnival pricing on July 6, 2026, and both gas and hybrid builds are on the ground at Plaza Kia now — including LXS, EX, Hybrid LXS, Hybrid EX and Hybrid SX.
What that means for allocation. LXS and EX fill inventory first and in the largest numbers. Hybrid trims move fastest once they land, and Hybrid SX Prestige with VIP Lounge Seats is the hardest combination to find in the metro at any point in the model year. Tell us the trim, powertrain and color you want and we will match you to the first arriving unit — no deposit, no obligation.
Before you fix a budget: Kia revises national programs monthly and we layer our own offers on top. Check current Kia incentives and our sales promotions before you commit to a trim.
Will the 2027 Kia Carnival cost more?
Marginally, and the numbers are already public rather than projected. The 2027 range opens at $37,490 for the LX and runs to $53,590 for the Hybrid SX Prestige, before the $1,545 destination charge. That is a typical year-over-year step for this segment rather than a repositioning.
The decision that actually moves your payment is gas versus hybrid. The hybrid premium runs roughly $2,000 on a like-for-like trim, and it buys a city rating of 34 mpg against 18. For a household putting real miles on the van inside the boroughs, that gap frequently outruns the price difference within the term of a lease.
Your trade is the other lever, and the one people underuse. Minivans have held value firmly in this market — get a real number with a KBB instant cash offer or trade appraisal, and we buy cars whether or not you buy one from us.

Which Carnival fits which New Yorker
- School run and weekend errands, one car for everything: Hybrid EX. The premium over the gas EX is roughly $2,000 and the city rating jumps from 18 to 34 mpg.
- Eight seats on a budget: LXS with the second-row bench.
- Long-haul trips to the Poconos or down I-95: the V6 tows 3,500 pounds against the hybrid's 2,500, so trailer users should stay with gas.
- Grandparents and long-leg passengers: SX Prestige with VIP Lounge Seats, which recline with powered leg extensions.
What the Carnival does well on New York streets
Start with the doors. Two power sliding doors mean no panel swinging into the car parked eight inches away, and no dings collected on a narrow street in Midwood or Sheepshead Bay. Both slide open hands-free when you approach with the key and your arms full of groceries, and the tailgate does the same.
Height is the underrated one. Depending on trim and roof rails the Carnival stands between 68.5 and 69.9 inches — under six feet. Plenty of garages around Manhattan and Downtown Brooklyn post clearance bars in the low six-foot range, and a tall three-row SUV with a roof box can find itself turned away.
Then the numbers. The hybrid's 34 mpg city rating is the one that counts, because city driving is what New York gives you: the electric motor does the low-speed work in stop-and-go on the BQE while the gas engine rests. Kia estimates about 608 miles of total range. Cargo runs 40.2 cubic feet behind the third row, 86.9 behind the second and 145.1 with everything folded — a stroller plus a week of shopping without touching row three.
One honest caveat: no Carnival offers all-wheel drive, for 2027 or any year. For nearly all NYC driving, front-wheel drive with a proper set of winter tires handles what the city throws at you. If AWD is non-negotiable, a three-row SUV is the answer, and we have those a few doors down.
Family logistics get their own attention. Power is spread through the cabin rather than pooled at the front: USB-C ports reach all three rows, and 115-volt and 12-volt outlets mean a breast pump, a laptop or a cooler can run without an adapter chain. Nobody argues about charging on the way to Long Island.
Safety follows the same logic. Rear Occupant Alert uses radar to detect movement in the back after you park, and Safe Exit Assist holds the sliding doors shut if it senses a cyclist coming up the curb side — on Bedford Avenue, a feature you will use more than you expect.
Awards and recent Kia news
The Carnival has been collecting hardware. In June 2026 it finished first in the minivan segment of the J.D. Power U.S. Initial Quality Study, alongside a segment win for the K4. In March 2026, U.S. News & World Report named it Best Minivan for Families in its annual Best Cars for Families awards, citing versatility, roominess and breadth of features. It was also named Best Minivan for Camping in the same publication's inaugural Best Adventure Vehicles awards in May 2026. Kia backs the van, and the hybrid battery, with a 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty.
Cross-shopping without leaving the block
Most Carnival shoppers also look at the Toyota Sienna and the Honda Odyssey, and plenty end up weighing a minivan against a three-row SUV instead. That comparison is unusually easy here, because Plaza Auto Mall's rooftops sit within a seven-minute walk of each other on Nostrand Avenue. Sit in a Carnival, walk to a Toyota Sienna, then a 2027 Honda Odyssey, then a Hyundai Palisade or Toyota Highlander — all in one afternoon, without driving across the borough between appointments.
If a luxury three-row is on the list, Acura of Brooklyn is part of the same group, and the full multibrand used selection is at Plaza Auto Mall used inventory.
Buying a Carnival at Plaza Kia
One block, five brands, over 1,000 vehicles
Plaza Kia sits at 2746 Nostrand Avenue, part of Plaza Auto Mall — a family-owned Brooklyn group on this avenue since 1975. Five new and certified pre-owned brands plus a multibrand used operation are within a seven-minute walk, with more than 1,000 vehicles in stock across the campus.
Plaza Kia is the number one Kia dealer in the Tri-State area by sales, which matters practically: volume means allocation. The trim, powertrain and color you want is far more likely to be on the ground here.
